At a time when so much attention is on the royal family, it seems appropriate to highlight an initiative launched last year by the then HRH Prince of Wales, now King Charles III.
The Terra Carta Seal
The Terra Carta Seal was launched in 2021 and awarded to global corporations in recognition of their commitment to, and work towards, the creation of genuinely sustainable markets. All firms that were awarded the Terra Carta Seal were judged to have credible transition roadmaps in place for achieving net zero by 2050 or earlier. In addition all recipients of the Terra Carta Seal had to be listed as the Corporate Knights’ Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations.

Sustainable paint
It is not easy for paint companies to be truly sustainable and we are proud to call one of the recipients of the inaugural Terra Carta Seal a supplier of ours. AkzoNobel were the only paint manufacturer to be awarded this honour and we are inspired by them to continue in our own quest towards becoming the most sustainable business possible.
What are AkzoNobel doing as part of their commitment to sustainability?
AkzoNobel state: “Guided by our company purpose, People. Planet. Paint. – which lies at the heart of everything we do – we’ve identified three key global topics: climate change; circularity; health and well-being; and made a commitment to future generations that we’ll do everything we can to address them.”
They are not only working towards becoming a carbon-neutral organisation but they are also working on developing solutions which will also help their customers to reduce their own carbon footprint. AkzoNobel’s focus on sustainability includes energy usage, waste management, water use and delivering products that help customers reduce their own energy usage. An example of this is the reflective coating for light fixtures that helps give up to 30% more output.

What are we doing?
Here at Sprayzone, we have been working on our own sustainability for some time and we are committed to :
- sourcing water-based or low VOC coatings where possible
- using renewable energy to power our offices and stores as well as starting the switch to electric cars
- choosing suppliers such as AkzoNobel who are equally committed to sustainability
- reducing our waste and recycling all that we can
- planting one tree for each day we’re on site through the One Tree Planted initiative. So far this year we’ve planted over 240 trees.
We will continue to all that we can to reduce our impact on the world around us and welcome any thoughts on this.
